    Perry 31

    Romney 20

    Bachmann 14

    Cain 9

    Gingrich 5

    Paul 4

    Santorum / Huntsman 2

    Unentschlossen 9

    http://politicalwire.com/archives/2011/08/26/perry_leads_in_south_carolina.html

    Romney 31

    Perry 18

    Bachmann 10

    Palin 10

    Paul 9

    Cain 7

    Gingrich 6

    Huntsman / Pawlenty 1

    Unentschlossen 6

    http://www.politico.com/2012-election/presidential-polls/nevada/nevada-gop-caucu s/

    Romney: New Hampshire / Nevada

    Perry: Iowa / South Carolina

“One is from the reddest state, one from the bluest. One a populist, the other a patrician. One grew up in privilege, the other without much in a little town in Texas. With Romney, questions have been raised about his authenticity and who he is. And Perry is a guy whose strength is his weakness — he doesn’t have to ask anybody who he is.”

Perry, people familiar with his views said, sees Romney as expedient, overly ambitious and unpalatable to the conservative base. Likewise, people close to Romney said he has unflattering opinions about Perry.

“I think he had a few exasperating experiences with Perry, and he’s not alone in that,” said one source close to Romney. “I think Mitt thinks Perry is not that bright.”

IN THE STATES: Arguably, the "holy crap" poll of the week came courtesy of the outfit at Mason Dixon, who headed into Florida [miamiherald.com] and found that the swing state may be swinging away from the man who carried it in 2008. M-D found Mitt Romney staked to a surprisingly wide 51-43 lead over Barack Obama in the Sunshine State. Obama also struggled against the other GOP frontrunners, narrowly trailing Rick Perry (46-45) while barely leading Michele Bachmann (46-44). These numbers echoed numbers earlier in the week from GOP pollsters Magellan [magellanstrategies.com], which found Obama trailing the trio of GOP frontrunners. At the time, it was easy to raise an eyebrow, given the partisan pollster. Mason-Dixon's subsequent polling did hint at confirmation, however, and absent contrary polling, Dems have to be a bit more nervous about their status in the largest swing state in the nation.

On the GOP primary front in Florida, M-D finds Romney pacing the field with 29%, holding a modestly comfortable lead over Perry (21%). Bachmann (13%) is the only other GOP candidate in double digits.

In two other states, meanwhile, the crew at PPP finds the president still holding onto states he claimed in 2008, and by fairly decent margins. Despite middling approval numbers in both states, weak approval numbers for his opponents keeps Obama out in front in both Iowa and Wisconsin [publicpolicypolling.com]. In Iowa, a state where some polling has shown the race close, PPP shows Obama with leads ranging from 10-21 points. In Wisconsin, meanwhile, the margins are a bit tighter. Nevertheless, the president still enjoys leads ranging from 5-14 points over the GOP field.

The Republican polling firm Magellan Strategies have suddenly become busy little bees in the 2012 cycle, as well. In addition to polling NV-02 (more on this later), they have busied themselves with checking out the GOP primary polling temps in a couple of key early states. The common theme? Rick Perry is quite clearly the right-winger flavor of the month. According to Magellan, down in South Carolina [magellanstrategies.com] the southern voters clearly have taken a liking to Perry, as well. There, Perry (31%) holds a double-digit edge over Romney (20%). Bachmann runs third here (14%). Meanwhile, Perry ekes out a slight edge in Iowa [magellanstrategies.com], where Perry's 24% edges both Michele Bachmann (22%) and Mitt Romney (19%). No one else gets into double digits there. Another Republican pollster (the heretofore unknown Wilson Perkins Allen) polled Iowa [huffingtonpost.com], as well. Their numbers mimic the others: Perry (23%) barely ahead of Bachmann (20%) and Romney (16%).

PPP [publicpolicypolling.com] also checks out the Hawkeye State. As they have found elsewhere, Perry's entrance into the race has catapulted him into the lead in Iowa. In PPP's poll, however, the field is considerably tighter, with five candidates in double digits. Perry (21%) holds narrow leads over Romney (18%), Bachmann (15%), Ron Paul (12%), and Sarah Palin (10%).

PPP also tested the state of Ohio [publicpolicypolling.com], finding the Perry boomlet present in the Buckeye State, as well. The lead, as elsewhere, is a narrow one: Perry (21%) edging Romney (18%), with Palin (11%) and Bachmann (10%) further behind.

The potentially important state of Georgia [ajc.com] also is leaning Perry, according to a new Insider Advantage poll. IA finds Perry (24%) in front, with GA native Herman Cain (15%) in the runner-up spot.

One primary state where Mitt Romney is still in control, perhaps predictably, is his childhood home of Michigan [freep.com]. In the Wolverine State, Romney (32%) nearly doubles up Perry (17%), with Bachmann again running in third place (12%).

In large part, Republican ire at Bachmann comes because she is seen as not fully embracing the '"rules" of Iowa campaigning.

Unlike most other states, Iowans expect candidates, even ones for 'leader of the Free World', to linger at events to talk with every person left in the room. Presidential hopefuls are also expected to take questions from not only the local media, but also everyday Iowans.

Fox News has found through conversations with Iowa Republican operatives and GOP regulars that Bachmann has developed a reputation as a campaigner who likes friendly photo-ops, autographs and taking pictures with supporters. But she is also frequently late to events and often does not take questions.

    [...]

Even a key Bachmann backer at the Straw Poll says her campaign has to change.

"The race started over after the straw poll," note Ryan Rhodes, director of the Iowa Tea Party.

"(Bachmann) needs to work on being more accessible and punctual to events. These are things I'm hearing from Tea Partiers around the state and I hope her campaign irons out these kinks."

    [...]

Rhodes says he has made attempts to let the Bachmann campaign know about its alleged Iowa transgressions, but he hasn't heard from anyone with the campaign since the Straw Poll.

    http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/08/26/seeds-discontent-bachmann-iowa-told -cut-barack-obama-rock-star-crap

You may have noticed that I don't mention Rick Perry very much here. That is because Rick Perry is, in my opinion, ancillary to this entire discussion. He was governor while these these numbers happened, so good for him. Maybe that means these jobs they are his "fault". Maybe the job situation is the result of his policies. Or maybe Texas is simply the least bad option in a search for a favorable economic climate.

    [...]

My advice to anti-Perry advocates is this: Give up talking about Texas jobs. Texas is an incredible outlier among the states when it comes to jobs. Not only are they creating them, they're creating ones with higher wages.

Ron Paul vergleicht Abtreibungen mit Amerikas Kriegen im Nahen Osten in einer Kritik an Organisationen der Abtreibunsgegner:

These same groups have very little interest in being pro-life when it comes to fighting illegal, undeclared wars in the Middle East or preventive (aggressive) wars for religious reasons.

    An interesting paradox!

    http://gop12.thehill.com/2011/08/ron-paul-being-pro-life-extends-to-wars.html

I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We've had an earthquake; we've had a hurricane. He said, 'Are you going to start listening to me here?'

    http://gop12.thehill.com/2011/08/bachmann-god-using-natural-disasters-to_29.html

“In terms of sheer brains and understanding policy at a deep level, he’d rank pretty low,” said McNeely, looking back at the chief executives he’s covered from John Connally on. “But as far as power politics and control, he’s the most powerful Texas governor in history.”

Among Perry’s key assets is a loyal, long-serving campaign team widely admired, and even feared, across the Lone Star State. Led by veteran New Hampshire operative Dave Carney, Team Perry is shrewd, flexible, ruthless, and—ironically, considering the gov’s fire-aim-ready rep—obsessed with hard data and the science of campaigning. [...]
Carney in particular is “a guy driven by numbers and driven by data in a profession of people driven by instincts,” notes a Republican consultant with close ties to the governor. As a result, he says, the team “understands how to spend campaign resources and where to spend them.”

    Landesweit, diesmal von CNN:

    Perry 32

    Romney 18

    Bachmann 12

    Gingrich 7

    Paul 6

Alle anderen "in the low single digits".

  • USA: Was plant Palin?

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2011/08/30/palin_backers_use_film_to_s pread_message_ahead_of_iowa_speech_111130.html

    http://gop12.thehill.com/2011/08/palin-to-new-hampshire-after-iowa.html

According to the New York Daily News, the Quinnipiac University poll finds Obama and Romney tied at 45% Obama beats Rick Perry 45%-42%, and he easily handles Michele Bachmann 48%-39%.

Romney was the only candidate to beat Obama among the Independents who could decide the election, topping the President 46%-40%
